Leading Queensland package delivery specialist First Express Couriers has received a powerful upgrade to its fleet with the commissioning of a new Sitrak G5 curtain side.

The 4x2 rigid truck has a 12 pallet body that gives the courier company a large and flexible load space and comes with a tailgate lifter for added versatility.

It is the first Sitrak to join the First Express Courier fleet, predominantly made up of Isuzu and Hino brands, but not the last as at least another two have been ordered.

It also marks another major Australian business that has chosen Sitrak with the First Express Courier addition now counting as more than 400 new trucks now delivered to local businesses by Queensland-based distributor City Fleet Group.

City Fleet is the nation’s largest supplier of fleet maintenance repair and maintenance with more than 30,000 trucks under contract, including those at First Express. City Fleet Sitrak is a division of City Fleet and is one of four national Sitrak distributors.

City Fleet CEO Wade Moran said although it had been selling Sitrak for 12 months, the brand was now the fifth biggest selling chassis in Australia.

Sitrak trucks are seen in a variety of industries and businesses, including one customer that has 150 trucks.

He said the First Express Courier sale was important because it previously bought only Hino and Isuzu and bought a Sitrak based on the value for money.

“First Express was the first client for my business City Fleet 15 years ago but this is the first time that it has been involved in a truck purchase,” he said.

“City Fleet clients generally already own a truck before they become a maintenance contract client so we aren’t involved in the sale of a truck. First Express was different because they made a decision on buying a Sitrak that was separate from their business dealing with City Fleet.”

In addition to the 400-plus sales, Mr Moran said his company had trucks on trial with major transport companies.

Sitrak is a premium brand made by one of the largest heavy-duty truck makers, China National Heavy Duty Truck Group Corporation (Sinotruk), which started in 1956 and has been a pioneer in the heavy-duty truck industry.

Sinotruk in 2009 partnered with German truck-maker MAN to create Sitrak, enhancing the technical capabilities and quality standards of Sitrak vehicles and making them globally competitive and immediately on the shopping list of major transport businesses.

The First Express Courier truck is a G5 model that comes standard with a 280hp engine mated to an Allison transmission and market-leading safety features and advanced technology.

It is designed and built to Australian standards and includes features such as airbag suspension, disc brakes, a cab that exceeds the ECE-R29 crash standard cab, ISRI front seats with heating and cooling for the driver, 7.0-inch touchscreen and 360-degree camera.

The T5G is built for reliability and durability and meets First Express Courier’s rigorous demands for an efficient and cost-effective truck that will enhance its operations.
