One of Australia’s top manufacturers of prefabricated roof trusses, wall frames, and floor systems, Timbertruss is revolutionising construction through innovation, technology—and now—an upgraded fleet of IVECO S-Way trucks.

Based at a state-of-the-art 26-acre facility in Corio near Geelong, along with a site in Brisbane, Timbertruss has long embraced automation to boost production output and reduce manual handling risks. The latest move to bolster logistics with a fleet renewal of IVECO S-Ways further cements its drive for efficiency and safety in every step of the build.

From their base in Geelong, the S-Ways deliver Victoria wide and as far north as New South Wales.

🚀 Technology Meets Transport

Rick Munro, Transport Manager at Timbertruss, understands the operation from the ground up. Starting in production over a decade ago, then moving into a delivery driver role before stepping into management, Rick’s seen firsthand how automation and smart transport have transformed the business.

“Automation is important for Timbertruss – we wanted to take a lot of manual handling of the heavy materials out of the business for added safety and efficiency,” Rick explains.

Producing in a controlled factory environment ensures high-quality results and minimal delays.

“Manufacturing in a controlled environment also means we’re not impacted by the weather. We deliver direct to site with materials ready to be erected. The aim in building is to reduce time on site, and we can help do this,” he added.

Truck mounted cranes make unloading easy once the deliveries arrive on the work site.

🧱 Next-Gen Prefab Building Systems

Timbertruss continues to evolve with cutting-edge prefabrication systems like cassette floor panels and next gen walls, which integrate joists, windows, cladding, and more—streamlining on-site construction and reducing labour and material waste.

Timbertruss uses the clever 'Roadpod' system which sees modular pods being pre-filled for faster loading.

🚚 Fleet Renewal with IVECO S-Way

Timbertruss has long relied on IVECO, with a majority of their fleet made up of Stralis models. Now, as part of a renewal program, the company is upgrading to IVECO S-Way 6x4 460 AD prime movers and 8x4 rigids, replacing some trucks that had nearly clocked 1 million kilometres.

Despite years of solid performance, Timbertruss didn’t rush the decision.

“Although the Stralis models had been reliable and a fantastic overall truck, we owed it to ourselves to have a good look around,” said Rick. “We evaluated models from just about every manufacturer, before settling on S-Ways.”

After many years using Stralis models, the upgrade to S-Way has delivered additional comfort, safety, emissions and power and torque benefits to the company.

💡 Safety, Comfort & Fuel Economy

The decision paid off. According to Rick, the new S-Ways are ticking all the right boxes:

“Even though the latest trucks have larger and more powerful engines than the Stralis models they replace, they’re actually using less fuel, which is a great outcome.”

“The comfort is also on another level—the trucks are so quiet and easy-to-drive, yet there’s still a familiarity to the controls and dash layout, meaning the drivers have made an easy switch.”

Thanks to the S-Way’s cab-over-engine design, navigating tight housing estates and metro sites has also improved dramatically:

“Increasingly, the sites we’re accessing are tight, the blocks are getting smaller, and the houses are getting bigger. The S-Ways’ configuration means maneuverability is great. The 8x4 rigids are fantastic in the more compact housing estates.”

🎨 Tailored for the Job

Decked out in Timbertruss' signature blue and yellow livery, the new S-Ways come fitted with extended chassis to support rear-mounted cranes, outriggers, and counterweights for improved onsite unloading stability. The trucks also feature beacons and oversize signage, and work in tandem with a modular Roadpod system—streamlining loading and delivery.

🛠️ Ongoing Support

The new fleet was supplied by Adtrans Truck Centre in Melbourne, who also provide servicing and maintenance support for Timbertruss’ growing logistics operation.
