Volvo Trucks has unveiled Safety Zones, a new digital solution designed to enhance safety by automatically limiting vehicle speed within designated geographic areas.

đźš› Smart Speed Control for Safer Roads
This innovative system allows transport operators to predefine zones—like ports, city centers, and school areas—where vehicle speed is automatically capped. The feature is available on Volvo FH, FM, and FMX Euro 6 trucks, including electric models like the FM Low Entry.

“With this service, a transport company can secure that the speed of the vehicle is kept low. For example, in a harbor or at a logistics center, or in areas with a lot of people and traffic moving about like busy city centers and around schools,” says Johan Rundberg, product manager at Volvo Trucks.

“The aim of the service is to make the traffic environment safer and to reduce stress for the driver. At Volvo, we continuously develop our safety systems with the purpose of taking steps towards our long-term vision of zero accidents with Volvo trucks.”

đź’ˇ How It Works
Using geofencing technology, Safety Zones restrict acceleration and actively slow the truck to match the pre-set zone speed. Drivers are notified on their display when entering a zone, and cruise control adjusts automatically to stay within the limit. The system still allows override via kick-down for safety.

Fleet managers can configure up to 300 zones per truck via Volvo Connect, the company’s digital service platform. Notifications are sent for events like entering, exiting, or overriding a zone.

🛠️ Service Availability
Safety Zones are offered via subscription and require Volvo Connect’s Positioning service. It’s live for new trucks from June 2025 and will roll out to existing models starting September.
